Who Would Kamala Harris Pick for Vice President?

If re-elected, with the notion that President Biden might not be in office for very long after his reelection in 2024, Democrats need to consider who’d be Kamala Harris’ vice president.

Who Would be Kamala Harris’ Vice President? - If re-elected, with the notion that President Biden might not be in office for very long after his reelection in 2024, Democrats need to consider who’d be Kamala Harris’ vice president.

It's not an easy answer. The Democratic Party, despite its puffery on the matter, doesn’t have a deep talent pool at the moment.

Might she pick someone from within the Biden Administration?

Who Would Become Kamala Harris’ Number Two?

If Kamala Harris ascended to the presidency at some point after 2024, she’d need to choose someone who brought heft to her administration and who was different from her. She’d likely be looking for a male with political experience.

Harris might keep it “within the family” of the Biden Administration. She could pick someone like the current Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, who is a male, hails from the Midwest, and is the first gay cabinet member in history

The problem with that pick is that Buttigieg is deeply unpopular with most Americans because he’s perceived as having mishandled his job at the Department of Transportation.

Kamala Harris could choose someone from outside of the Beltway. In fact, that’d be her best pick. She’d need to pick someone who balanced her own persona.

Despite the fact that many on the Far-Left dislike Harris for his tough-on-crime record from her days as the California attorney general, Harris was voted the most Liberal senator in 2019. Harris’ record continues to be one of the most Left leaning of any Biden Administration member.

She might want to consider a more moderate member of the Democratic Party from outside the Washington, D.C. bubble.

Blue-Collar Democrats Needed for Kamala Harris

Former Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) ran against author J.D. Vance for the senate seat in Ohio in 2022. He lost to Vance. Yet, Ryan is still popular among the working-class community in the United States.

While serving in the United States House of Representatives, Ryan was a consistent champion of working-class causes at a time when Democrats were widely distancing themselves from that group—and their presidential nominee in 2016 was describing that traditionally Democratic Party voting bloc as “a basket of deplorables.”

Ryan never wavered from his support of that group. Plus, he’s a white, heterosexual, male, which balances Harris. Ryan’s presence in a potential Kamala Harris White House could be the missing link in whatever reelection scheme Harris and her team eventually cook up.

She can win the minority votes and Tim Ryan might cleave enough working-class votes from the “MAGA” wing of the Republican Party to nullify any threat to the Democrats in 2028.

Someone like Tim Ryan would be Harris’ best bet. She shouldn’t pick another Lefty female as her number two. She needs to balance her perceived strengths by selecting someone who can cover her many weaknesses.
