Fundamentally, fewer obstacles line the path to a broad-based coalition in support of TTIP, and the choice to prioritize TPP’s timing as a matter of U.S. domestic debate was a costly mistake that nearly derailed a bipartisan consensus on U.S. trade policy. Further setbacks on TPP, however, could still hamper the Obama administration or even the next U.S. administration’s efforts, not least of all to see through a deal on TTIP.
